January state tax revenues come in $1M over forecast

Idaho’s general fund revenues for January came in $1 million ahead of projections, for a fiscal year-to-date total that's 1.2 percent over the forecast. Sales taxes for the month, often much-watched because they reflect the impact of holiday sales, were very close to forecast, at 1.1 percent below, and 7.6% higher than for the previous January. You can see the full General Fund Revenue Report here from the governor’s Division of Financial Management; it shows that stronger than expected corporate income tax collections boosted totals for the month.

The Legislative Budget Office’s monthly General Fund Budget Monitor report shows that the January figures raise the estimated year-end balance for the fiscal year, which ends June 30, from the $79.4 million anticipated at the close of last year’s legislative session to $93.4 million .That figure will drop as supplemental appropriation bills are approved, which can authorize additional expenditures within the current budget year.
