Soda Fire 95% contained, but target shooters within fire area cause problems for firefighters

The giant Soda Fire southwest of Boise is now 95 percent contained, but BLM officials are asking the public to stay out of areas impacted by the wildfire for public and firefighter safety – and especially not to go out to the fire scene for target shooting, as some already have, causing problems for firefighters.

“The fire is not 100% contained and crews still have work to do to contain the fire and finish up rehabilitation of dozer lines,” the BLM said in an announcement. “Shooting within the fire area is extremely unsafe for firefighters, and we are asking the public to find alternate locations. Firefighters have already witnessed several target shooters within the fire perimeter making working conditions unsafe thereby inhibiting fire suppression progress. Please help us to keep our firefighters and public safe.”
