Groups schedule rally against ultrasound bill

Three groups that say they've been "inundated" with phone calls and e-mails opposing SB 1349, the bill to require Idaho women to undergo an ultrasound before they could have an abortion, have scheduled a rally for noon tomorrow on the Statehouse steps. "Forcing women to undergo an invasive procedure for political reasons, and not medical, is the very definition of government intrusion,” said Hannah Brass, legislative director of Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. Also sponsoring the rally are United Action for Idaho and the ACLU of Idaho.

The bill was introduced a week ago by Senate Assistant Majority Leader Chuck Winder, R-Meridian, and has 10 GOP legislative co-sponsors. It is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate State Affairs Committee next Wednesday, March 14th.
