Feb. state tax revenues boom, easily beat forecast…

Idaho's state tax revenue figures are in for February, and they came in $19.5 million ahead of projections. For the fiscal year to date, that puts revenues $32.7 million ahead of projections. Wayne Hammon, Gov. Butch Otter's budget chief, sounded a note of caution, however. "A significant portion of the monthly excess is due to lower than expected refunds in the individual tax area," he said. "This is a timing issue. The Idaho Tax commission is processing returns later than in prior years and DFM anticipates that much of this monthly excess will evaporate once those returns are processed. I believe that a more realistic read of the data would show that year-to-date collections are closer to $20 million ahead of the DFM forecast than the $32.7 million shown in the report."
