Senate suspends rules, sends ballot bill to the House

Today is the transmittal deadline for most bills to be moved from one house to the other, Senate Majority Leader Bart Davis announced this morning, so the Senate has suspended its rules to take up SB 1371, a measure from the Idaho Secretary of State's office that was on its 2nd reading calendar, to ease requirements on counties for printing multiple ballots for the May 15 primary election. Sen. Curt McKenzie, R-Nampa, said, "It saves them quite a bit of money," as under the bill, counties could print combined ballots with both the partisan and nonpartisan races on them. The bill passed the Senate 32-0 and will immediately be sent to the House; it'll have to pass and be signed into law quickly to meet ballot deadlines.
