Bill would authorize construction of a new state parking garage near the Capitol…

House Assistant Majority Leader Scott Bedke, R-Oakley, introduced legislation yesterday to authorize the state Department of Administration to use money saved by refinancing state-owned buildings to build a new parking garage near the Capitol, Times-News reporter Melissa Davlin reports today; you can read her full report here. Davlin reports that 2,300 state employees work in the Capitol Mall, but there are far fewer available state parking spaces; the shortage is magnified during the legislative session, with lawmakers and their staff also competing for those spots. “The state needs to address that,” Bedke said.  His bill is co-sponsored by Rep. Joe Palmer, R-Meridian, and Sen. Chuck Winder, R-Boise.
