Risch to Senate: ‘There’s going to be a lot of pain’

U.S. Sen. Jim Risch addressed the Idaho Senate this morning, and he had a grim message about federal deficit spending. "Everyone in Washington agrees that this can't go on," Risch told the Senate. "I'd like to be able to stand here and tell you that I have the utmost confidence that the Congress will grapple with this problem and solve it. I can't tell you that."  He also mentioned the state's budget problems. "I understand you guys have a problem," Risch said, recalling state budget shortfalls he faced when he served in the state Senate. He said, "As bad as things are, we've been through bad things before. ... We can get through this, and we will get through this, but keep in mind there's going to be a lot of pain associated with it."
