Testimony: ‘Unintended consequences’

Among those testifying most recently: Joanne Holtz, a middle school teacher from Caldwell, told the Senate Education Committee that she's had to confiscate cell phones from students who've been texting in class, and she said students don't necessarily understand the proper use of technology and that not everything on the Internet is true. Monti Pittman, executive director of Insight Schools, said his firm has "made a substantial investment in Idaho and its students," and said, "Nationally we are the largest provider for online high schools, serving 12,000 students in eight states." He spoke in favor of the Luna reform plan. Decker Sanders of Mountain Home told the Senate Education Committee he's concerned about "unintended consequences" in the two school-reform bills.
