IEA: Educators ‘not opposed to change,’ but feel Luna plan ‘devalues teachers’
Idaho Education Association President Sherri Wood said, "Idaho educators are not opposed to change." She said her association helped develop the Idaho Reading Initiative and other reforms. "We are not OK with the status quo," she said. But, she said of the Luna plan, "His proposed legislation goes out of its way to devalue teachers. This goes against a long history of education collaboration in Idaho."
She said, "Change shouldn't be imposed in a reckless, unilateral way. ... It feels as if here in Idaho we have made education a political football. We need to stop for the sake of our students." She urged lawmakers to reject Luna's legislation, and instead start a collaborative process to figure out how best to improve schools.
