Fulcher: Bring us an alternative?
Sen. Russ Fulcher, R-Meridian, asked Sherri Wood of the Idaho Education Association, "Will your organization put in front of us a comprehensive alternative?" Wood responded, "We certainly could put out some kind of a plan, and we have a number of ideas." But, she said, "Our idea is not to do a plan in isolation. ... You all would shoot holes in it just like we are shooting holes in Mr. Luna's plan. In order for a plan to work, and for the teachers in the trenches to feel like they had a role in what was decided, we have to have all the stakeholders at the table, and we have to do the ugly, messy work of implementing reform all together. That's why we haven't put forward at plan."
Fulcher bemoaned the lack of leadership among the various groups to bring all the stakeholders together. "Until the stakeholders can come together with viable alternatives, it makes it difficult for me to try to follow that kind of leadership," he said.
