Senate passes second anti-union bill
The Senate has voted 25-8 in favor of SB 1007, an anti-union measure pushed by Sen. Monty Pearce, R-New Plymouth, sending the measure to the House. It's the second of two bills targeting unions, co-sponsored by nine GOP legislators, in part because lawmakers were upset about loud union pickets in front of the state Capitol two years ago, during the legislative session. SB 1007 bans unions from subsidizing wages to help contractors win bids; the earlier measure, SB 1006, bans "project labor agreements" for Idaho public works projects; both raise legal issues that could lead to litigation.
