Job tax credit bill held up for fixes

The Idaho Chamber Alliance proposed legislation this morning for a new refundable tax credit for new jobs, at 4 percent of gross wages. But amid questions in the House Rev & Tax Committee, the bill was held for fixes. The statement of purpose said the measure would apply only to jobs that pay at least $12 an hour, but the bill didn't say that, lawmakers on the committee noted.  "I apologize to the committee for not picking up on that," Rev & Tax Chairman Dennis Lake, R-Blackfoot, said. "We had about how many drafts of this past us, and this was one that slipped by."

Asked how many jobs would likely qualify for the proposed new credit, Idaho Chamber Alliance lobbyist John Watts said, "I can't quantify that, because I don't know how many employers would participate in this - we would hope a lot, but I can't guarantee it."
