Two men were arrested Thursday after an early-morning shooting at a house party in the Chief Garry Park area that sent another man to the hospital in critical condition.

James E. Kemple and Ivan D. Liles, both 21, were jailed on charges of first-degree assault, Spokane police said in a news release. The victim, whose name was not released, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded at about 1:20 a.m. to reports of the shooting at a house in the 3300 block of East Carlisle Avenue. Initial reports indicated the victim had been shot during an argument and other partygoers had taken him to the hospital before officers arrived.

Kemple and Liles were arrested in the front yard of a home in the 1700 block of West Boone Avenue after police surveilled the residence and confirmed they were inside, according to the release.

Police said anyone with information about the shooting should call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
