Out of Right Field: Recap, takeaways from the Seattle Mariners’ 4-3 victory against the Los Angeles Angels

Mike Leake pitched seven strong innings as the Seattle Mariners snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory against the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Tom Murphy and Jay Bruce hit home runs for Seattle, which finished the month with a 7-21 record, the worst May in franchise history.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani hit homers for the Angels, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Leake (4-6), a right-hander, allowed two runs on five hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. The only runs came on back-to-back homers leading off the sixth inning.

Four of Seattle’s five hits came from the bottom third of the order — Bruce, Murphy and Dylan Moore.

Mariners IFs Ryon Healy and Dee Gordon both fielded groundballs and did early work on the field for the first time since going on the 10-day injured list last week. … The M’s optioned RHP David McKay to Triple-A Tacoma and recalled RHP Chasen Bradford. … RHP Ruben Alaniz was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Reds. Alaniz pitched in four games with the M’s in April, going 0-0 with a 20.25 ERA, before being sent down to the Rainiers.
