Sandpoint man found dead with gunshot wound; suspect arrested

Sandpoint police have a man in custody they say is a suspect in the fatal shooting of Robert Cameron Hegseth Wohali, who had been missing since Sunday.

The suspect, Michael Ryan McDermott, was arrested and booked into Bonner County Jail over the weekend on charges unrelated to homicide, according to a news release from the city of Sandpoint.

Hegseth Wohali was reported missing Sunday, prompting a search by the Sandpoint Police Department, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and the Idaho State Police. During the search, detectives received a tip that he had been shot and killed, according to the news release.

Authorities found Hegseth Wohali’s body, with a single gunshot wound to the chest, in a rural area south of Sandpoint on Tuesday.

Detectives believe Hegseth Wohali was killed at 2208 Great Northern Road early Friday, according the news release.

Police say they’ve recovered a gun that they believe was used in the shooting.
