The snow is finally here, so check out these Spokane-area deals on skiing, snowboarding

January is national learn to ski and snowboard month. With the area’s snowpack finally filling in, there are multiple deals and events at area resorts.

From women-only events to free lessons for beginners, area resorts offer everything you need to get on the slopes.

49 Degrees North

Starting now, 49 Degrees North is offering it’s weekly women’s ski and ride club every Monday at 10 a.m. meeting at the Boomtown Bar. To RSVP, email marketing@ski49n.com. The resort will also offer a women’s clinic on skiing off the groomers on Monday. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Boomtown Bar. Registration is $49 and includes a 1 1/2-hour lesson. Call 935-6649, ext. 610.

Don’t forget the family Nordic weekend Saturday and Sunday. Kids under 18 get a trail pass and free Nordic equipment if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Mt. Spokane

Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard park also offers a monthly ladies-only day starting Friday. Female coaches from Mt. Spokane Mountain Sports School will teach you the basics. Call 238-2220, ext. 0.

Also at Spokane’s namesake mountain, check out the Souper Bowl event on Feb. 3. It’s the fourth annual cross-country and snowshoe event and is open to woman of all skill levels. A donation of $35 is suggested. To register, visit spokanenordic.org/souper-bowl.

Night skiing is also back. For $22, ride from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Silver Mountain

Silver Mountain’s annual Jack Ass Day is Friday. The annual event honors the opening of Jack Ass Ski Bowl, the precursor to Silver Mountain. Tickets are $12. The Silver Valley resort will also offer night skiing on Saturday from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12.

Also on Saturday is the Jams for Cans Rail Jam. Entry fee for the trick competition is 15 cans of food. The jam starts at 5 p.m. Following the tricks, there will be a retro outfit contest at Moguls starting at 8 p.m. Winners get $50 gift cards.

Finally, senior appreciation week is Monday through Jan. 17. Seniors receive $29 lift tickets.

Lookout Pass

Lookout Pass is also hosting a Downhill Divas. Gather four or more lady friends and register for a special or multiday group. Register: chris@skilookout.com.

Lookout Pass’ ski free school for youth is scheduled for Saturday and Jan. 19. Youth from 6 to 17 can learn to ski for free. Participants must attend a free ski school lesson with the first three weeks of the program. For more: skilookout.com/famous-free-ski-school.

Don’t forget Lookout’s annual Winter Carnival on Jan. 13 featuring the Pacific NW National Wife Carrying Competition. Winners get their spouse’s weight in money.

Schweitzer

Throughout January, Schweitzer will offer first-time skiers and riders discounted packages as part of the national learn to ski month.

New skiers or boarders can get a lesson, lift ticket and rentals for $40. The Sandpoint-area resort also offers the Ski-4-Free in 3 program. Participants get three days of lessons, rentals and lift tickets for $165. Upon graduation, participants can ski for free from mid-March until Schweitzer’s season ends
