Big Sky roundup: Northern Colorado whips Northern Arizona 42-14 for first win
Keaton Mott threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and short-handed Northern Colorado picked up its first win of the season, defeating Northern Arizona 42-14 on Saturday in Greeley, Colorado.
The Bears, who suspended 12 players for unspecified reasons earlier in the week, also got touchdowns from their defense and special teams.
Joe Logan had two short touchdowns runs in the first half to give the Lumberjacks, who were coming off a bye week following an upset of FCS top 10 Weber State, a 14-12 lead at the half.
Liberty 48, Idaho State 41: Frankie Hickson had 22 carries for 133 yards and three TDs and the Flames outpaced the Bengals in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Ty Flanagan’s 51-yard TD run with 2:37 left in the third brought Idaho State within 34-31 before Peytton Pickett’s 2-yard run capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive to extend the lead to 10. The Bengals narrowed the deficit to 41-34 with a 27-yard field goal by Campbell Sheidow with 97 seconds to play. But after Liberty recovered the onside kick, Hickson ran for a 47-yard score on the next play to make it 48-34.
Weber State 34, Montana State 24: Treshawn Garrett had 21 carries for 80 yards, including three 1-yard touchdowns, to help the Wildcats top the Bobcats in Ogden, Utah.
Josh Davis added 96 yards rushing on 11 carries and Kaden Jenks scored on an 8-yard run that trimmed Weber State’s deficit to 10-7 midway through the second quarter.
UC Davis 52, Cal Poly 10: Jake Maier threw for five touchdowns and the Aggies recovered from a lethargic first quarter and demolished the Mustangs in San Luis Obispo, California.
Cal Poly took a 10-0 lead after one quarter when, on its first drive, Joe Protheroe ran for a 35-yard touchdown finishing off a nine-play, 64-yard drive.
North Dakota 41, Sacramento State 15: James Johannesson ran for career highs of 213 yards and two touchdowns, Brady Oliveira tied a career high with 171 yards rushing and had a career-best three TD runs, and the Fighting Hawks beat the Hornets in Sacramento, California.
