Banff Mountain Film Festival lineup announced for Spokane shows

The Banff Mountain Film Festival’s Spokane lineup was selected today.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival’s Spokane lineup was selected today.

Filmgoers will be treated to a visual, emotional and auditory smorgasbord featuring outdoor adventure, reflection, conservation and humor.

The films were selected around 1 p.m. by Phil Bridgers and Paul Fish of hosting Mountain Gear along with World Tour hosts from Banff. Spokane’s shows are among the first screenings from the recent festival in Banff.

This weekend’s shows at the Bing Crosy Theater and the Garland Theater are all sold out.

Friday Nov. 16 lineup (7 p.m., at the Bing Crosby Theater)

Rogue Elements: Corbet’s Couloir

    • Anyone who has ever skied or snowboarded Jackson Hole knows just how nerve-racking it can be to send it into the infamous Corbet’s Couloir, even in the best of conditions. Doing it in icy conditions on mountain bikes is nothing short of insane, and that’s exactly what we did. 4 minutes.

    Sacred Strides

    • Bears Ears National Monument is one of the most talked-about public lands under threat. In March 2017, a group of Native American tribes put their differences aside and came together to run 1280 kilometers to Bears Ears to send a message of unity. 12 minutes.

    Grizzly Country

    Land of the Wind

    • In Patagonia, further South than most people ever dare to venture, there’s a land of infinite vastness and beauty. Fine-art photographer Eliseo Miciu explores this mythical place, and also learns a bit more about himself. 18 minutes.

    Fast Horse

    • Fast Horse follows the return of the Blackfoot bareback horseracing tradition in a new form: the Indian Relay. Siksika horseman Allison Red Crow* struggles to build a team with second-hand horses and a new jockey, Cody Big Tobacco*, to take on the best riders in the Blackfoot Confederacy at the Calgary Stampede. 14 minutes.

    • Inspired by a Dr. Seuss narrative, this mountain bike film is sure to take you places like no other. 6 minutes.

    Boy Nomad

    • 9-year old Janibek lives with his family in Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. His first love is racing horses, but this winter, his father will bring him on the toughest journey in a nomad’s life: the winter migration. 21 minutes.

    Far Out: Terrace B.C.

    • Three pro skiers head to Terrace, British Columbia to fly off jumps, smash pillows and search for perfect ski lines. Little did they know that a passionate local would lead them to even more fun, laughs and stoke in the backcountry. 5 minutes.

    Break on Through

    • Margo Hayes, a little-known 19 year old from Boulder, Colorado, she has moved to Europe to train and climb with the goal of succeeding on two of the most iconic 5.15s in France and Spain.
