Captain Michael Adams, lower left, carries a large Copper River king salmon as he walks with first officer Bob Hood, upper right, down some steps from an Alaska Airlines 737 airplane, dubbed the “Salmon Thirty Salmon” for its paint job featuring a salmon from the state of Alaska, Friday, May 18, 2018, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Seattle. The plane was carrying thousands of pounds of the first shipment of Copper River salmon and the annual arrival of the fish is a rite of spring in Seattle, where the fish are prized for their flavor and bring the highest prices at restaurants and fish markets. SEATTLE – More than 16,000 pounds of Copper River salmon arrived at SeaTac Airport early Friday morning.

KOMO reported that three more Alaska Airlines flights were inbound from Cordova, Alaska, delivering an additional 48,000 pounds of salmon to the market, where it will then be delivered to restaurants and grocery stores across the country.

The arrival of fresh Copper River king and sockeye salmon is a rite of spring in Seattle where the fish are prized for their flavor. They typically bring the highest prices at restaurants and fish markets.
