Two Isaiahs spark Toreros’ offense

It’s the first of Gonzaga’s two meetings with San Diego and there are a pair of obvious key matchups.

The Toreros’ turnaround has been spurred by point guard Isaiah Wright and forward Isaiah Pineiro. Wright, a transfer from Utah, has had a 30-point game and a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. Pineiro, who transferred from Portland State, leads the team in scoring and rebounding. Both are capable beyond the 3-point arc and creating off the dibble. They’ve combined for 219 free-throw attempts.

Wright will probably be defended by Silas Melson, but Josh Perkins is an option. USD has been utilizing a smaller starting lineup, which could put 6-foot-10 Killian Tillie or 6-9, 230-pound Johnathan Williams on the 6-7, 215-pound Pineiro. USD’s other frontcourt starter is Juwan Gray, who is 6-8 and 190 pounds.
