Young Idaho couple dies after being struck by car
FRUITLAND, Idaho – A young married couple walking on a sidewalk in western Idaho was killed after being struck by a car.
KTVB-TV reported 22-year-old Matthew Parkinson and 17-year-old Amelia Parkinson died Wednesday after Idaho State Police say a car driving at a high rate of speed veered off U.S. Highway 95 in Fruitland.
Authorities say the 37-year-old driver was taken into custody by Fruitland police after he attempted to flee the crash on foot.
Payette County Coroner Keith Schuller says the couple was holding hands and was hit from behind. He says the Kuna couple married last month.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates the crash may have been intentional, and the deaths are being investigated as homicides.
