Washington State women’s basketball coach June Daugherty takes leave of absence
Citing health concerns, Washington State women’s basketball coach June Daugherty is taking an indefinite medical leave of absence, the school announced Wednesday.
Daugherty’s husband, associate head coach Mike Daugherty, will serve as acting coach until she returns.
“The medical procedure I had a few weeks ago was successful, but I need some additional time to rest and heal,” June Daugherty said in a statement.
“I have great confidence that my staff will continue to coach the Cougs to their best play yet, I believe in this team and I am excited to see them continue to have success in Pac-12 Conference play.”
Daugherty is in her 11th season as head coach and 29th overall. She missed three games earlier this season, with Mike Daugherty taking charge of the team.
Mike Daugherty is 2-3 all time as acting head coach, including 1-2 this year.
WSU is 9-11 overall and 2-6 in Pac-12 play going into Friday’s home game against USC.
