Columbia Basin knocks Community Colleges of Spokane out of first place with baseball sweep
PASCO – Jonah Callaghan struck out 10 in the second game Wednesday to help Columbia Basin defeat Community Colleges of Spokane 6-0 and complete a sweep of their Northwest Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader.
Ryan Sanders drove in three runs in the opener to spark an 11-4 win for the Hawks (18-14, 6-8).
The losses knocked the Sasquatch (23-9, 10-4) out of a first-place tie in the East Region with Yakima Valley (30-6, 12-2), which swept Walla Walla.
Callaghan scattered four hits over seven innings. Alexander Orejudos’ two-run triple in the sixth gave the Hawks a 5-0 lead.
In the opener, Sanders and Luke Shekeryk had two-run singles during a six-run third. Jadan Vandervert had an RBI single during the Sasquatch’s three-run fifth.
