Area roundup: Idaho’s Enrique Marin ties for fifth place at Redhawk Invitational

Idaho junior Enrique Marin matched the best finish of his career Tuesday by tying for fifth place at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

Marin shot a final-round, 1-under-par 70 to complete three rounds at 4-over 217. Marin had all three of his birdies during the round on the final nine holes.

Idaho placed 10th in the 17-team field at 56-over 908.

San Francisco (868) won the team title by 13 strokes over UC Santa Barbara. Tim Widing led the Dons, tying for first place at 5-under 208 with George Washington’s Logan Lowe, who birdied the first playoff hole for the victory.

Women’s golf

Gonzaga’s Jessica Mangrobang tied for 30th and Eastern Washington’s Alexa Clark tied for 34th as the Wyoming Cowboy Classic wrapped up at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.

Mangrobang shot a final-round, 2-over-par 74 to complete three rounds at 6-over 222. Clark was another shot back after following up two even-par rounds with a 79.

EWU placed 18th in the 20-team field at 915. Gonzaga placed 20th at 925.

Medalist Sofie Babic led Sacramento State to the team title. Babic shot a final-round 69 to finish at 211 for a three-shot edge over teammates Astha Madan and Julia Becker, and New Mexico State’s Dominique Galloway.

The champion Hornets (854) finished 22 shots ahead of runner-up New Mexico State.
