Seahawks vs. 49ers: Five things to watch

After both failing to reach the end zone in Week 1, the Seahawks and 49ers hope to show a semblance of offense today at CenturyLink Field.

Here are five things to look out for.

Seahawks offensive line can redeem itself

For the past three years, the 49ers have drafted a defensive lineman in the first round of the NFL Draft.

This investment appeared fruitless in a 29-3 loss at Carolina last week, pass rush-wise, as Cam Newton went nearly untouched behind the line of scrimmage.

This is a prime bounce-back opportunity for Seattle offensive line that struggled mightily in a 17-9 loss at San Francisco. The Seahawks generated a meager 225 yards and 12 first downs as Russell Wilson was sacked three times and hurried seemingly every other snap.

But if anyone knows what how to use his pieces up front— DeForest Bucker and Solomon Thomas, specifically — against Seattle, it’s new 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Soleh, a former Seahawks’ defensive quality control coach (2011-2013).

Soleh was on the Seahawks’ staff the last time the 49ers won in Seatle, Dec. 24, 2011.

Will the featured Seahawks RB please stand up

After sitting out the season opener because of a high ankle sprain, the Seahawks’ projected Week 1 starter, Thomas Rawls, will play today.

That’s good news for a Seahawks running game that totaled just totaled just 90 yards last week, just 53 coming from running backs.

Rookie Chris Carson accounted for 39 of those yards on six carries. Eddie Lacy and C.J. Prosise also got carries.

With a healthy Rawls back in the mix, who will emerge as the Seahawks’ feature back?

Will Wilson improve this week?

Russell Wilson has beaten the 49ers in his last seven tries.

If he wants an eighth straight win over his NFC West rival, he’ll want to improve from his 69.7 quarterback ranking a week ago.

Wilson didn’t have much time to operate, but when he did he still missed on a handful of throws, completing just 14 of his 27 passes for 158 yards and was 3 for 12 on

third down.

Griffin proving his worth early

After corner Jeremy Lane was ejected for throwing a punch last week, rookie Shaq Griffin made sure Lane’s void wasn’t felt.

Griffin, a third-round draft pick out of Central Florida, totaled 10 tackles and a pass break-up against Aaron Rodgers, who struggled to get over the top of Seattle’s secondary.

Can the newest addition to the Legion of Boom produce another sterling performance, this time at home?

But is this really a rivalry?

When Seattle and the 49ers met in the 2013 NFC championship game, it was the height of one of the nastiest rivalries in the NFL.

It has taken a major dive since.

The 49ers, now on their fourth head coach in four years, have lost seven straight to Seattle and nine of the last 10.
