Fresh from winning its first Big Sky Conference regular-season title since 2004, Eastern Washington will have home-field advantage in this week’s conference tournament.

The Eagles (14-5-1 overall) will get a first-round bye, and will play on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’a quarterfinal match between Portland State and Northern Arizona. A win on Friday would send the Eagles to Sunday’s championship match.

“We are extremely excited to host the tournament next week,” Eastern coach Chad Bodnar said after a regular-season ending loss Friday at Idaho, which left the Eagles 8-1-1 in the conference.

Coincidentally, Idaho won the regular season last year, but a waterlogged pitch in Moscow forced the tournament to move to Cheney, where Eastern ran the table and earned the first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

Despite the win over Eastern, Idaho didn’t qualify for the Big Sky tournament.

Now Eastern is the heavy favorite. The Eagles concluded another record-setting regular season with a program record 14 wins. They are 9-1-1 at home this year.

EWU also set program records for the longest consecutive unbeaten streak with 11 matches and nine in Big Sky play. The Eagles have also earned eight shutouts and outscored opponents 23-6 in conference play.

All matches will be streamed live on WatchBigSky.com and Pluto TV Channel 234. In addition, Friday’s (Nov. 3) semifinals matchups and the Championship match will be broadcast on Eleven Sports.
