Education notebook: Freeman High School plans community art night Nov. 16

Freeman High School will host a community art night it’s calling “Explore Your Heart With Art” on Nov. 16.

Participants can help create art on fabric squares, called “Healing Heart Quilts,” that will be given to hurting families. There will be musical performances by Lilly of the Valley featuring Freeman’s Katie Youngren, and Deep Blue Bluegrass Band.

Heidi Pintor who runs the annual Palouse Art Camp in Valleyford, will be a guest artist.

The free event will be held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the MPR room at Freeman High. Supplies, food and entertainment were donated for the event.

She goes Above and Beyond

At a school board meeting on Oct. 25, Spokane Valley High School’s district data coordinator, Debra White, was awarded the district Above and Beyond Award. Jean Marczynski nominated White for being the expert on “all systems foreign to everyone else.” She has worked for West Valley for nearly 20 years and is an expert in Skyward, the district student management system.
