Gonzaga fans help drive soaring Airbnb rentals in Phoenix

Airbnb’s booking data from Phoenix indicates the Final Four weekend will be one of the company’s biggest in the city this year.

After Gonzaga University clinched a berth in the Final Four, the number of Spokane residents booking nights in Phoenix jumped 82 percent, the company reported. Arrivals from other parts of Washington increased 21 percent.

Oregon Ducks fans are also heading to Phoenix. The number of guests booking from Oregon jumped 21 percent, officials said.

Both teams play Saturday at the University of Phoenix stadium. The Zags face South Carolina; the Ducks, North Carolina.

Airbnb hosts set their own prices. In the Phoenix area this weekend, the typical price for a booked listing is $94, company officials said. In Glendale, home to University of Phoenix stadium, the typical price per night for a booked listing is $110 a night.
