Maddie the Bulldog, the beloved unofficial mascot of Gonzaga University, has died.

The news was announced in a Facebook post Thursday night.

“Today I couldn’t take the pain anymore and told my humans,” stated the post, which was written from Maddie’s perspective. “Under the care of my loving vet Dr. Ben Hart Fairwood Animal Hospital in Spokane, Washington I grew my angel wings and flew over the Rainbow Bridge. (by the way there are unicorns).”

Maddie had osteosarcoma, a fast-growing bone cancer, according to her owner, and neither an amputation nor any amount of chemotherapy would have cured her.

In the weeks leading up to her death, people shared stories about how the dog made their lives better. The Facebook post urged people to continue to share.

“I received so many wonderful stories about how I impacted lives,” she said. “If you haven’t yet and still want to email me your story, please do so, because my human could use more. She needs some help now that I’m not there to care for her on earth.”

Maddie’s family has asked that people send stories about anything the canine has done to make their lives better to maddie@aoaonaturalpets.com.

“I am going to ask Jesus a few questions and I’ll send down the answers to my human in her dreams so she can share some answers with you,” Maddie said.
