LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have hired former Spokane Chiefs coach Don Nachbaur to be an assistant on John Stevens’ new staff.

Kings general manager Rob Blake announced the hire Thursday.

Nachbaur spent seven seasons as the head coach of the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs, making the playoffs six times. He also has been a head coach at Seattle and Tri-City in the WHL.

Nachbaur was an assistant coach under Stevens with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms from 2000-02.

Stevens and Nachbaur were teammates with the Philadelphia Flyers and the AHL’s Hershey Bears during the 1980s.

Nachbaur joins Dave Lowry and goaltending coach Bill Ranford on Stevens’ staff. Blake says the Kings are considering the addition of another assistant coach.
