Education

Ann Ciasullo has been named the Robert K. and Ann J. Powers professor chair of the Humanities at Gonzaga University. Ciasullo is an associate professor of English and the chair of the women’s and gender studies department. As chair, Ciasullo plans to expand the reach of the Gender and Pop Culture Speaker Series and further connect the study of humanities and pop culture. She begins her 10th year at Gonzaga this fall.

Dr. Wendy Buenzli has been named Washington State University College of Nursing’s RN-BSN program director. Buenzli has previously worked as an assistant professor at the College of Nursing in the Tri-Cities and as the associate dean of nursing at Spokane Community College. She remains a part-time employee at East Adams Rural Healthcare in Ritzville, Washington.

Providence Health Care also has announced Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children’s Hospital have earned the Get With the Guidelines: Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll. The award, presented by the American Heart/American Stroke Association, recognizes hospitals in which stroke patients receive treatment that meets recognized evidence-based standards and recommendations.

Law

Super Lawyers Magazine has named local lawyers to its list of 2017 Super Lawyers. Keller Allen of Keller W. Allen, P.C. has been named a Super Lawyer in Employment Law. Additionally, Timothy Fischer, David Gardner and Collette Leland, principals at Winston & Cashatt, were named Rising Stars. Jessica Allen, partner at Witherspoon Brajcich McPhee PLLC, and John Drake, an associate with the same firm, have also been named to the Rising Stars list.

Mining

Hecla Mining Co.’s mine rescue teams reported a strong showing at the Central Mine Rescue and Quebec Provincial Mine Rescue competitions. The Lucky Friday team placed first out of seven teams, while the Greens Creek team placed second. The Casa Berardi team placed sixth out of 17 teams.

Home Helpers Inland Northwest is under the new ownership of John Stokes. Home Helpers is a national franchise specializing in home care for seniors, new mothers and those needing ongoing assistance. Home Helpers Inland Northwest opened in 2008 and is based in Coeur d’Alene.

Northwest Harvest, a Washington hunger relief agency with a warehouse in Spokane, has named Thomas Reynolds as CEO. Reynolds has worked in nonprofit leadership for more than 20 years.
