Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame squashes building plans

Associated Press

BIG TIMBER, Mont. – The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame is without land to build its facility on after the spot previously picked was found to contain undisclosed wetlands.

The Billings Gazette reported the space in Big Timber was picked in 2012 with plans for a heritage center, exhibition hall, event center, information center, outdoor arena and more. But organizers say they’ve squashed these plans after finding out about the wetlands and experiencing an inability to work with the owner of the property.

Ariel Overstreet-Adkins, vice president of the hall of fame, says board members discovered the wetlands while undergoing development efforts on the property. She says the owner of the property decided to terminate the lease to purchase contracts instead of revising the deal after the wetlands were discovered.
