Man accused of child abuse in Valley Hospital allegedly threatened witness from jail
The man accused of violently throwing his 10-month-old daughter onto a bed at Valley Hospital on Wednesday later threatened the girl’s mother during a jailhouse call, according to court documents.
Logan S. Rose, 19, is charged with child assault and witness tampering.
On Wednesday, employees at Valley Hospital told police they saw Rose throw the 10-month-old girl into a hospital bed. The infant was brought to the hospital after her mother noticed a large “squishy” bump on the girl’s head.
Earlier Wednesday, the mother left the girl with Rose while she went shopping. When she returned home she noticed the large bump and “became alarmed at its appearance and size,” court documents state. Rose reportedly denied any knowledge of how the girl had been injured.
At the hospital, the girl was diagnosed with a skull fracture and brain bleeding. According to a doctor interviewed by police, the injury could not have been caused by the girl slipping and falling.
After a physician assistant informed Rose and the woman of the girl’s skull fracture, Rose “forcefully” threw the crying girl into the bed in an effort to quiet her. She said Rose then yelled at the girl, “Go to sleep,” and then stuck a pacifier in her mouth, documents state.
Then Rose began yelling about the horrible service at Valley Hospital. A hospital staff member said Rose also chased a 3-year-old boy and pinched him, causing him to cry, according to court documents.
Police arrested Rose early Thursday morning. He told investigators that he had previously been arrested for assault after stabbing someone in a fight a couple of years ago, according to court documents.
After being booked into the Spokane County Jail, Rose called the girl’s mother. He denied having injured the 10-month-old. At one point he said “you better prove to them that I didn’t do … wrong,” court documents state.
A detective listened to the recorded call. Rose was subsequently charged with tampering with a witness.
Rose is being held on $500,000 bond. Several family members attended his court hearing Friday, but declined to comment, saying they have been receiving death threats.
