Eastern Washington, Idaho women’s basketball teams take identical records into playoff chase
With four games left in the regular season, Idaho and Eastern Washington are scrambling for a top-four finish in the Big Sky Conference.
The race got tighter thanks to the Vandals’ resounding 78-51 win over the Eagles last weekend in Moscow, a result that left both teams at 14-11 overall and 9-5 in the Big Sky.
“It was pretty big because we have always been rivals with Idaho State and Eastern,” Idaho forward Geraldine McCorkell said. “I think it just makes it more exciting, going into Reno.”
UI and EWU are in a three-way tie for fourth place with Idaho State ahead of their road trip this week to ISU and Weber State. The big prize is fourth place, which means a first-round bye and a spot in the quarterfinals on March 8.
The only consolation for Eastern was junior forward Delaney Hodgins moving into sixth place on the school career scoring list
A 14-point performance against Idaho gives Hodgins 1,297 for her career. She is now 92 points away from fifth on the all-time scoring list, which is currently held by Lexie Nelson (1,388).
