Chiefs’ Ty Smith earns spot in CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game

Spokane Chiefs defenseman Ty Smith has been named to the 2018 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, it was announced on Wednesday.

The game features 40 of the top players from the CHL and will take place on Jan. 25 in Guelph, Ontario.

Smith, 17, is in his second year with the Chiefs after a stellar rookie season where he ranked third among Western Hockey League 16-year-olds with 32 points (5 goals, 27 assists). It was the second-best season by a 16-year-old in Chiefs history.

Smith has continued his success this season with five goals and 25 assists. His 30 points are tied for sixth place among WHL defensemen. He has been listed as a top-10 prospect by several publications, including The Hockey News and TSN.

Spokane’s Kailer Yamamoto competed in the game last season.
