Gonzaga trying to knock off top five foe for first time since 2006

NEW YORK – Villanova and Gonzaga are linked by a number of stats entering Tuesday’s showdown at the Madison Square Garden.

Villanova ranks first nationally with 108 wins while Gonzaga is second with 107 since the 2015 season. Both programs earned 129 wins over a four-year span from 2014-17.

The Wildcats have a decided edge at Madison Square Garden. They’re 11-1 in the arena since 2001. Gonzaga is 3-4 at MSG, but has won its last two games here.

Gonzaga is trying to snap a nine-game losing skid against top five opponents. The streak dates back to GU’s 62-54 victory over No. 2 North Carolina in 2006 at Madison Square Garden. Gonzaga is 5-20 all-time versus top five foes.
