Food for Fines: Pay your library fine with food during National Library Week

From staff reports

The Spokane County Library District will be accepting food donations for Second Harvest in lieu of fines during National Library Week, April 9-15.

For every nonperishable item of food, $2 will be forgiven from a cardholder’s account, up to a maximum of $20 per library account. Food for Fines dollars are applied to fees for overdue and/or damaged items and cannot be applied to lost-item charges or accounts referred to collection.

Since 2013, the library district has collected more than 16,000 pounds of food and forgiven over $15,000 in fines.
