In Brief: In Gee Chun takes 2-shot lead after 2 rounds of Evian Championship

Golf: In Gee Chun posted a 5-under round of 66 to take a two-shot lead at the Evian Championship on Friday in Evian-les-Bains, France, keeping the 22-year-old South Korean on course for the second major of her career.

Chun, the 2015 U.S. Women’s Open champion, had a bogey on the fourth hole but otherwise played with great control, hitting six birdies in rainy and overcast conditions at the picturesque resort overlooking Lake Geneva.

South Korean Sung Hyun Park, who shared the overnight lead with Chun, juggled three bogeys and six birdies in a round of 68, tying her for second place with Shanshan Feng – China’s only major winner.

So Yeon Ryu, also from South Korea, is three shots behind Chun in fourth place after posting 66, matching her score from round 1.

Feng was a shot back overnight, as was American Annie Park, while defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand sat seven strokes behind after a disappointing opening day in her bid for a third major by the age of 19.

Feng started to tire on the back nine, hitting two bogeys, but perked up with birdies on the final two holes for a 67.

Broadhurst leads at Pebble Beach: Paul Broadhurst shot a 6-under 66 at Pebble Beach to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the PGA Tour Champions’ Nature Valley First Tee Open in Pebble Beach, California.

The 51-year-old Broadhurst won the Senior British Open at Carnoustie in July for his first victory on the 50-and-over tour. He won six times on the European Tour and played in the 1991 Ryder Cup.

Moore gives Lynx fourth-quarter push

WNBA: Maya Moore scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Minnesota Lynx pull away for an 82-75 victory over the Indiana Fever in Indianapolis.

The Lynx (27-6) had already locked up home-court advantage throughout the postseason, and have won 12 of their last 14 and 12 straight against the playoff-bound Fever (16-17).

Sun rout Wings: Camille Little and Courtney Williams scored 15 points apiece to lead the Connecticut Sun to a 107-74 victory over the Dallas Wings in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Jasmine Thomas and Alex Bentley added 14 each. The Sun (13-20) had seven players in double figures for the second time in team history and flirted with a team shooting record in their last home game of the season.

Chiney Ogwumike had 13 points and 13 rebounds, her eighth double-double in the last 10 games, and the Sun shot 63.2 percent (43 of 68).

Young, Quigley lead Sky: Tamera Young scored 22 points and Allie Quigley added 18 to lead the Chicago Sky to their third straight victory, 92-68 over the New York Liberty in Glenview, Illinois.

The Sky (18-15) moved a game in front of Atlanta for the fourth-seed in the playoffs and a first-round bye. Atlanta plays at league champion Minnesota on Saturday, and Chicago is at Seattle on Sunday to end the regular season.

Busch wins Truck race at Chicagoland

Auto racing: Kyle Busch overcame a race-record 11 cautions for his 46th career NASCAR Truck Series victory in Joliet, Illinois, dashing the hopes of full-time drivers needing wins to claim a spot in the debut Chase for the championship.

The Sprint Cup star’s second circuit win of the season and fifth trucks win at Chicagoland Speedway meant Daniel Hemric and Timothy Peters earned the final two spots in the eight-driver playoff field based on points.

Rain washes out Sprint Cup qualifying: Qualifying for the Chase for the Sprint Cup opener at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, was been rained out.

The lineup for Sunday’s race will be based on the playoff seeding, meaning Kyle Busch will be on the pole and Brad Keselowski will start second. Denny Hamlin will start third, followed by Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards.

Del Potro outlasts Murray at Davis Cup

Tennis: Argentina was in sight of a first Davis Cup final since 2011 after taking a 2-0 lead over titleholder Britain thanks to singles wins by Juan Martin del Potro and Guido Pella in the semifinal in Glasgow, Scotland.

Del Potro ended Andy Murray’s 14-match winning streak in the Davis Cup, coming through 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 in 5 hours, 7 minutes to gain a measure of revenge after losing the Olympic final to Murray last month.

Cilic tops Pouille in Davis Cup semis: Marin Cilic held his nerve to beat big-hitting Lucas Pouille 6-1, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2 and draw Croatia level against France at 1-1 in their Davis Cup semifinal in Zadar, Croatia.

Earlier, Richard Gasquet won the opening tie against Borna Coric in straight sets to heap the pressure on the big-serving Cilic.

USC player bails out on rape charges

Miscellany: A suspended University of Southern California football player charged with rape in Utah has bailed out and will make his first court appearance later this month.

Osa Masina posted bail Thursday night to get out of a Salt Lake County jail. Bail was set at $250,000.

Prosecutors accuse the 19-year-old of sexually assaulting a woman July 26 after she passed out following a party the night before in a Salt Lake City suburb. Masina is also the focus of a sexual-assault investigation in California involving the same woman. Masina is charged with one count of rape and two counts of forcible sodomy.

United ties Fire: Bobby Boswell scored in stoppage time to give D.C. United a 2-2 tie with the Chicago Fire in Bridgeview, Illinois.

D.C. put a long throw-in near the penalty box and the ball bounced around before Patrick Mullins put a bicycle kick off the crossbar. The rebound went to Patrick Nyarko on the left side but Chicago keeper Sean Johnson made an outstanding diving save, only have the ball go to Boswell for the easy conversion.

Brown wins U.S. skating event: American Jason Brown won the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Salt Lake City. Brown had 254.04 points. Japan’s Takahito Mura was second at 252.20, and American Adam Rippon, the leader Thursday after the short program, was third at 248.24.

Liukin replaces Karolyi: USA Gymnastics didn’t look far for to find Martha Karolyi’s successor as the leader of its powerhouse women’s program.

Valeri Liukin, a four-time Olympic medalist and father of 2008 Olympic champion Nastia Liukin, was chosen the successor to Karolyi on Friday. Karolyi retired last month.
