Everett rallies in the bottom of the ninth to deal loss to Indians

Eric Filia doubled home two in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Everett AquaSox over the Spokane Indians 6-5 in a Northwest League game at Memorial Stadium in Everett, Washington.

The big hit came after Indians’ reliever John Werner gave up a walk to Donnie Walton and a bunt single by Bryson Brigman to start the inning. Werner then threw a wild pitch to allow both runners to move up a base. Werner (0-1) was charged with the blown save and the loss.

Michael Koval (2-2) picked up the win in relief for the AquaSox, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Everett’s comeback came after Spokane (31-42) took a 5-4 lead with a three-run rally in the seventh.

The rally started with one out, as Darius Day and Leody Taveras drew back-to-back walks from Paul Covelle. Everett called to the bullpen for reliever Dillon Moyer, but Blaine Prescott responded with a two-run double to left to tie it at 4-4.

Prescott moved to third on a ground out and scored on Luis Terrero’s single. Terrero was thrown out at second trying to advance on the late throw home.

Everett (44-30) picked up four runs in the bottom of the second inning – all without the benefit of a hit. Spokane starter Alex Daniele walked five straight batters to start the inning to force in two runs, then balked in a third. After recording a strikeout, Daniele uncorked a wild pitch for the fourth run of the inning.

Daniele didn’t allow a hit in his two innings of work.

Spokane got two of those runs back in the top of the third on Anderson Tejada’s two-out, two-run homer, his seventh of the season, with Prescott aboard after he reached via an infield single.

Prescott finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs.
