Gonzaga’s Jordan Mathews candidate for Jerry West Award

Gonzaga senior Jordan Mathews is one of 20 candidates for the Jerry West Award, given to the nation’s top shooting guard.

Mathews, a graduate transfer from Cal, connected on 201 3-pointers in 102 career games with the Bears. He’s hit 41.7 percent of 3-pointers and 78.4 percent of free throws in his career.

Mathews and BYU’s Nick Emery represent the West Coast Conference on the list. Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield won the award last season.

The Zags’ Nigel Williams-Goss, a transfer from Washington who sat out last season, made the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, presented to the nation’s top point guard.
