New CEO named for Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Benewah Medical Center

The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has named a new chief executive for the Benewah Medical and Wellness Center.

HeloHancock will lead the center in Plummer, Idaho, which has more than 35,000 primary care visits each year. Hancock had worked as the tribe’s legislative director focused on issues such as health care policy, taxation and gaming at the local, state and federal level.

The center opened in 1990 with 14 staff members and a $900,000 budget. Now, it employs about 150 people and has an $18 million budget. The center provides health care to Native and non-Native people on a sliding fee scale.
