Man shot by police Sunday expected to fully recover
The machete-wielding man shot early Sunday morning is still in the hospital, but expected to make a full recovery, according to police.
Investigators identified the man Tuesday as Charleston D. Harper, 34.
Bar employees on the 200 block of North Division Street alerted police that a man was walking around with a machete.
Eventually the man ended up in front of Zolas near the corner of Main and Division. Police responded to reports that he was chasing and threatening people. An officer used a Taser on Harper, but it was unsuccessful, investigators said in a news release Tuesday. Police shot him when he tried to enter an apartment building.
Harper has been charged with burglary but more charges could be coming as the investigation continues, the release said.
He was charged with assault in 2006 after throwing a knife at another man during a fight in Riverfront Park.
