‘Drink One for Dane’
More than 260 Dutch Bros. Coffee locations in seven states will donate proceeds to the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Friday.
MDA helps fight muscle-debilitating diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The fundraiser honors Dutch Bros. Coffee co-founder Dane Boersma, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2005 and died in 2009.
This year, the event celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Since its inception, the business said it has given more than $1.7 million to the organization. For more information, visit www.dutchbros.com.
Tour Dorothy Dean’s kitchen
Sample Dorothy Dean’s Orange Ginger Cookies while visiting her kitchen during the 27th annual Mother’s Day Home Tour on Saturday and Sunday.
Tours run from noon to 4 p.m. both days and offer a chance to see inside the Leuthold-Brown home. Edna Mae Endslow Brown, who served as Dorothy Dean for a few years starting in 1935, lived in the home at 506 W. Sumner Ave. from 1968 to 2005. It was built in 1925.
Dorothy Dean was the pseudonym for editors of The Spokesman-Review’s Dorothy Dean Homemakers Service, which mailed monthly recipe leaflets, offered weekly cooking matinees and operated a telephone hotline. Founded in 1935, the service was shuttered in 1983.
The tour, which includes the 1916 Matthews-Woldson Home at 526 W. Sumner, is put on by the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture. Tickets are $20 or $15 for museum members. Proceeds benefit museum programming.
