Passed away March 25, 2016 in Spokane, WA.
Vern was born in Lane, ID on January 28, 1929 to Floyd and Bernadine Payne.
The family later moved to Washington State where Vern graduated from Central Valley High School.
There he met Shirley Rothrock whom he would marry in 1948.
Vern was a member of the Elks Club and the Lumbermans’ Association.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating and spending time at the cabin he built on Bead Lake.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Payne; brother-in-law Don (Cheri) Kruse; son Terry (Patty) Payne; daughter Linda (Keith) Lyson; grandchildren Jeremy Shining, Matthew (Lynette) Payne, Leah (Jason) Horlacher, Shelby (Aron) Mitchell, and Kyle (Sherry Richardson) Lyson; as well as four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA, on Thursday, March 31, 2016, 9 AM to 1 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1 PM.
Interment will follow at Pines Cemetery.
