Man in custody after acting erratically, shooting a gun

Deputies in two counties worked Friday to find a man who neighbors said was driving erratically and shooting at hallucinations.

The man, who has not been identified because he has not been charged with crime, was located in Davenport, Washington, Friday afternoon and taken into protective custody, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Neighbors had contacted deputies with concerns about the man’s erratic behavior, including the shootings, over the last several days. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrived at the man’s home in north Spokane County Friday morning but the man was not there, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the man was near Davenport after deputies pinged his cell phone and tracked him with a helicopter, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office press release. The Davenport School District, hospital and other locations were put on lockdown as a precaution until the man left town.

He was taken into custody while driving north on Highway 25 around 2 p.m. Friday.
