The Dirt: More remodeling scheduled for Red Lion in downtown Spokane

By Treva Lind Correspondent

A nearly $2 million project will update the Red Lion Hotel at the Park.

Baker Construction & Development has started that remodeling work, at 303 W. North River Drive, to create a new look for the hotel’s lobby, bar, coffee bar and lounge. The project, expected to wrap up later this summer, also will create a fourth-floor suite and apply exterior painting and lighting.

Baker Construction is completing a separate job this month to remodel the hotel’s 400 guest rooms. Beginning in February, the room makeovers have included new luxury vinyl plank flooring, paint, bathroom updates, furniture and 55-inch TVs.

On its website, Red Lion describes the site’s upgrades, to include a new restaurant and bar concept, as part of a July rebranding under the name Hotel RL Spokane at the Park.

Baker Construction also is doing improvements for Red Lion hotels in Post Falls, Richland and Pasco.

Sign company expands in Valley

Mountain Dog Sign Co. Inc., a full-service sign manufacturing company, will expand into larger Spokane Valley quarters.

The company has leased a 6,600-square-foot facility, at 1620 N. Mamer Road, to gain additional sign production space, said co-owner Marshon Kempf. She and husband Steve Kempf founded the company in October 2011, and they plan to move the business from Liberty Lake’s Meadowwood Technology Campus about June 20.

The new space will have a conference room, offices for designers, and room for a 5-by-10-foot flatbed cutter, called a computer-numerical control machine. The site also provides easier indoor-outdoor access for the couple’s dog and company mascot, a Bernese mountain dog named Jack Frost.

Mountain Dog’s work includes making exterior and interior signs, design-build custom signage, and pieces that are Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant with Braille and raised lettering. It has seven employees including the owners.
