Save the children

Thank you for the Feb. 7 story, “Have Mercy,” on two Spokane nurses who are saving the lives of some of the world’s poorest people in Madagascar. It reminds us that there are many mothers and children suffering and dying every day from totally preventable causes.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has joined Washington Reps. Derek Kilmer and Dave Reichert, and Sen. Patty Murray in supporting the Reach Every Mother and Child Act. This act requires no new funding. It simply helps USAID be more effective in saving mothers and children.

Readers moved by the story should write Sen. Maria Cantwell, and ask her to sponsor the Senate Reach bill, and write a thank you to McMorris Rodgers.
