Signed The Spokane Empire signed wide receiver Samuel Charles, who was a member of the Indoor Football League’s Wyoming Calvary last year.

The Minnesota Lynx re-signed WNBA finals MVP Sylvia Fowles and then dealt forward Devereaux Peters to Indiana for Natasha Howard.

Agreed Outfielder Carlos Quentin and the Minnesota Twins agreed to a minor league contract, giving Quentin a chance to revive his career. The deal would give Quentin a $750,000 salary. He announced his retirement last May through the Seattle Mariners, citing chronic knee injuries.

Infielder and former Seattle Mariner Brendan Ryan agreed to a minor league contract with the Washington Nationals and will report to big league spring training.

Announced Montana State University announced it isn’t renewing the contract of athletic director Peter Fields. School officials say Fields will stay in the post until his contract ends on June 30.

Departed UTSA sophomore QB Blake Bogenschutz is giving up football because of lingering concussion-like symptoms. Bogenschutz missed the final seven games of 2015 after sustaining a concussion against UTEP.

Hired The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux and 19-year veteran Raul Ibanez as special assistants to Andrew Friedman in the team’s front office.

Named Alcorn State named Fred McNair as its next football coach, promoting him after four seasons as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. McNair replaces Jay Hopson, who took the Southern Mississippi job on Saturday.

Investigated Brazilian striker Neymar and his father maintained their innocence after appearing before a judge in an investigation into a complaint made by a Brazilian investment group which claims it was financially damaged because Barcelona and Neymar allegedly withheld the real amount of the player’s transfer fee from Brazilian club Santos in 2013.
