Area roundup: Medalist Derek Bayley leads WSU to golf title

Washington State sophomore Derek Bayley claimed medalist honors and the Cougars won the team title Tuesday at the WSU Collegiate men’s golf tournament at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman.

Bayley tied the tournament record by shooting 5-under-par 201. He made just one bogey through the three-day tournament.

As a team, WSU fired a 33-under 819, breaking its tournament record, which was set in 2010.

• Washington climbed three spots in the standings and finished in seventh place after shooting a 2-under 286 in the final round of the Shoal Creek Invitational at the Shoal Creek Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Huskies’ top finisher was Carl Yuan, who tied for ninth at 1-over 217.

Football

The Spokane Shock added kicker Pat Clarke to their 2016 Indoor Football League roster. Clarke spent the 2015 season with the Professional Indoor Football League’s Lehigh Valley Steelhawks.

Honors

Whitworth earned five Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week: Duke DeGaetano (football – offensive); Dalin McDonnell (football – defensive); Sam Engle (men’s soccer – offensive); Aaron Yanagi (men’s soccer – defensive); and Nicole Leonard (volleyball).
