EWU wins fourth straight volleyball match

Eastern Washington won its fourth volleyball match in three days, defeating Southeastern Louisiana (1-4) in four sets, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15 on Sunday in Hammond, Louisiana.

Allie Schumacher had 12 kills and a career-high 19 digs for EWU (4-3).

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga (1-2-2) and Utah State (3-2-1) played to a 1-1 tie in Spokane. Kristin Hayman’s penalty kick for GU in the 51st minute tied it. There were 35 fouls in the physical match.

• Alex Rankin scored on a free kick in the 43rd minute and North Idaho College (2-2-0) took a 1-0 victory over Highline (2-1-1) in Federal Way, Washington.

Men’s soccer

North Idaho (2-2-0) dropped a 3-0 decision to host Highline (2-0-1).

Hockey

The Spokane Chiefs remained winless in three preseason games after falling to the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2 in Everett.

Kailer Yamamoto and Hayden Ostir scored for the Chiefs. Seventeen-year-old Matt Berlin started in goal and saved nine of 13 shots. Tyson Verhelst came in and made 18 saves in 19 chances.
